Roll On Arizona's Capitol
If you're sick of sitting on the sidelines and actually want to implement change now is your chance! Join us for Roll On Arizona's Capitol (ROAC) January 22, 2018 to meet with legislators and discuss a few specific bills that would greatly benefit the disabled community. Two weeks prior to the event you'll provided a training webinar to prepare individuals for meeting with legislators January 22. Keep in mind, if you want to personally meet with legislators watching training video prior is mandatory, however you are welcome to volunteer that day and socialize. VIDEO AVAILABLE BELOW.
On January 22, 2018 starting at 9:30AM people with disabilities and their able-bodied comrades will flood Arizona's Capitol to attend scheduled meetings to educate politicians on the needs of the community, and ask for progressive legislation that will benefit all of Arizona.
Our goal is to come as a group that is organized and informed and effectively ask for support and/or sponsorship on bills that will positively impact a majority of Arizonans living with disabilities, as well as able-bodied Arizonans. Our topics primarily focus on access and educate politicians on the needs of the community.
Now is our chance to make a difference. Please join us by either volunteering, attending the meetings, or just showing up that day to show your support! Sign up below to receive information and please indicate if you are interested in volunteering or meeting with legislators. You can also sign up on Facebook to receive updates as well.
IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR TOPICS OR THE EVENT WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU, PLEASE BE SURE TO SEND THEM BELOW (even if you do not wish to attend).
We are currently intending to push two issues 1) request a certain percentage of apartment complexes offer barrier free bathrooms (meaning roll-in showers), and 2) encourage fire code inspections to include a priority ADA inspection. Priority ADA inspections would include checking parking, entrance, bathrooms, and seating. We will examine the state of healthcare closer to the event and address any bills that will be negatively affecting the disabled community relevant at the time.
